Saving Money

Saving money is a lot harder now that J is home and we have a house.  Our savings account was rather large before we bought the house but most of it went to down payments, some closing costs, and some work that was needed around the house.

Now, the savings account is smaller but I'm working to make it full of money again.

Trying to save money we've done the following....(OR plan on doing)

  • Eat out way less
  • Cook a lot more
  • Eat leftovers
  • Buy in bulk (We love Sam's!!!!)
  • Listed old school books and others online to sell
  • Wash clothes in cold water
  • Hang some clothes outside on clothes line
  • Netflix instead of movies (very good investment)
  • Garden (we've got eggplants, green onions, cherry tomatoes, large tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, and cucumbers growing)
  • Finally gotten curtains for our living room (hopefully this will help with heat)
  • Keeping ceiling fans on
  • Programmable thermostat
  • Energy efficient light bulbs
  • Cash in credit card rewards

Hopefully all these things pay off.  Some I know we won't see the pay off for a while.  We have gotten our income tax checks back and that was great!  We used some of ours on adding some rocks around the patio and some pine straw to our flower beds.  But in the long run, that keeps us enjoying our home and not out and about spending money.

Good luck to everyone else saving money!

Saving Money...

So we're not having financial problems but I don't want to get there so any way that we can save money I think it's smart to try to save as much as possible.

So here's the things that I want to do/have done...

  • Change lightbulbs to energy efficient bulbs
  • Turn water heater temp down
  • Water heater blanket
  • Keep fans on
  • Turn a/c up
  • Keep a lamp on if needed instead of big lights
  • Curtains to keep light/heat out
  • Programmable thermostat
  • Swiffer more often so less vacuuming is needed
  • Wash clothes in cold water
  • Hang some clothes on clothesline
  • Growing veggies
  • Netflix instead of going to the movies
  • Cook more!

So far, we seem to be doing pretty good. Hopefully when we see the bills we will see a difference!

Finding Money At Home

After all these years in college, I've collected a lot of books.  Some I've sold to fellow students, some I've kept.  Well I've decided that I really don't need most of them so it's time to get rid of them.
I listed 10 books online at Half part of Ebay (but you get all the money).  One book is for like $8 but I figure that's $8 that I didn't have before.  Not to mention, that getting rid of these books will give me more room for other stuff.

Now I'm trying to find more ways to get rid of things, make extra space, and if it makes money then YAY!
